The Publishing Howells

I admit it. I check in on Amazon every now and again to see if A Dialogue on Consciousness ever rises above the 500,000th best selling book. Usually I enter “Alter Howell” as the search, but just to see, I entered Howell, and found that I appear far behind Hannah Howell who seems to be selling a lot more books.  I wonder, is it the cover?

Oh sure, sure. The philosophy professor with the high flying ideas on identity and the difficult-to-grasp metaphysical concepts is going to eThrash the lowly romance novelist. Come on.

This whole situation is so scripted that it sounds like it came from one of my favorite books. Oh wait, it did: A Taste of Fire, by Hannah Howell. In the book, a crabby professor confronts a sultry and entertaining novelista and is publicly ridiculed, thereafter confined to the dark regions of the Wild West/ Old England (I forget which), where he becomes physically fit and eventually gains the courage and machismo to court said novelista. It is a tale of passion and desire – I give it six out of four stars. I love it. I love (Hannah) Howell. I celebrate her entire collection.
